I've created a new folder to my gallery called "HDR Photography" to highlight the High Dynamic Range projects I've done, after (in some cases) a couple of years of waiting to get an HDR program (hooray for free software). I've also included some new shots taken out during a recent mini-vacation out at Hecla Provincial Park.
I knew I wasn't doing all that bracketing for nothing!

Oregon Coast - Take Two (Summer Road Trip 2011)
It slipped my mind to journal about it earlier, but if you haven't already noticed, I've uploaded more pics from this year's summer road trip.
Pros:
- more time at the beach house
- got to see more ocean life (ie. starfish galore)
- got to do all of the Sweet Creek Trail this time and took way more waterfall/creek shots
- rented a Manfrotto tripod, Markins ballhead and Nikon wide angle lens with this nifty variable Singh-Ray (sp?) neutral density filter that you just had to twist to change the level from 4-8)
Cons:
- only had a monopod and (yet again) no wide angle lens by the time we reached the Redwoods = crappy photos that didn't d
US Road Trip: Oregon Coast and The Redwoods
As I think back on the past three weeks, I still can't help but be in awe of it all. They weren't kidding. The Oregon coast really is a nature photographer's dream. If you ever get a chance to go, I have only two words for you: Sweet. Creek.
Not only is Sweet Creek (a stone's throw from Florence, OR) a fun, moderate hike, but above all it is absolutely stunning - walking through the changing (yet well-kept) forest trail, you get a sense that you have stepped into a pre-historic time; lush, exotic overgrowth in the plants and trees greets you as the trail follows alongside a highly-photogenic, bubbling creek. Here, this prairie gal finally go
Photo day trip: Gimli - a lakeside town
It's been so beautiful out lately that last Saturday, we drove up North to Gimli, which is a small harbour town right on Lake Winnipeg.
The plan was to walk around, have dinner there and hopefully be in town for sunset to take some photos.
Aside from a chilly breeze coming off the lake, it was a sunny day and I couldn't resist snapping as much of everything I thought looked even remotely interesting. My favourites of these pics are now posted, though there are a handful of ones that - while not too aesthetically pleasing on their own - would make for a good nautical-themed photo collage of sorts, so I'll have to play with that and post the
Macro Experiments: Fruit, fruit and...more fruit!
Thanks to my sweet and considerate parents (who, in true Filipino fashion, show their affection for their children through gifts of food) I have an overabundance of fruit at home. Grapefruit, avocados, a whole pineapple and even a papaya! I even had a bag of pomegranates from them over the winter that recently went bad from lying forgotten and neglected at the bottom of the crisper (but don't tell my parents - they'll scold me for being wasteful)! In the past, the list of gifts has included (but is by no means ever limited to): cantaloupe, honeydew, nectarines, cherries, strawberries and kiwis.
You see, as thoughtful as my parents are (well,
